book nerd swag review: under the never sky by veronica rossi

Standard

ImageSince she’d been on the outside, she’d survived an Aether storm, she’d had a knife held to her throat, and she’d seen men murdered. This was worse.

Exiled from her home, the enclosed city of Reverie, Aria knows her chances of surviving in the outer wasteland—known as The Death Shop—are slim. If the cannibals don’t get her, the violent, electrified energy storms will. She’s been taught that the very air she breathes can kill her. Then Aria meets an Outsider named Perry. He’s wild—a savage—and her only hope of staying alive.

A hunter for his tribe in a merciless landscape, Perry views Aria as sheltered and fragile—everything he would expect from a Dweller. But he needs Aria’s help too; she alone holds the key to his redemption. Opposites in nearly every way, Aria and Perry must accept each other to survive. Their unlikely alliance forges a bond that will determine the fate of all who live under the never sky.

In her enthralling debut, Veronica Rossi sends readers on an unforgettable adventure set in a world brimming with harshness and beauty.

what we thought:

l- it took me a few chapters to really get into this book, but once i did i was so hooked! i don’t normally like multiple-perspective books, but i loved this one. it was really great to see the story play out through both perry and aria’s eyes. i couldn’t stand perry at first haha but by the end i thought he was such a sweetheart. ❤

m- i was the same exact way. when i started the book i was actually on team soren (who will we meet) and now i am completely team peregrine!!! haha. it was a hard book to get emotionally attached to. during the first couple of chapters you can set it down and pick it up and not really feel pulled in. but once you get in a little ways you can not put the book down. the world that veronica rossi created was amazing and maybe one of my favorite settings.

l- it was such a cool setting! i loved the idea of the population having to seek shelter in the pods. aria is kind of annoying at the beginning, she seems kind of bratty, but you really see her character grow throughout the story. *spoilers!* the relationship between her and perry is so adorable. they start so completely at odds with each other, and then learn they have more in common than they could have ever imagined. 🙂

m- i loved talon (perry’s nephew). he was the sweetest thing and reminded me a lot of jamie in the host. even though his character was not in the book much he played a huge role in the story. something that made this book more interesting than others is the fact that they kind of have special abilities. i don’t want to spoil anything so i won’t tell you what they are but they made the book so much more interesting.

l- yes! they hinted at that before they really explained what was going on… i think i read one part five times where it said something like he didn’t need his nose to know that she was angry. haha i was like, “say what now?” i thought i had missed something, but the book just teases you a bit at the beginning. 🙂 this book is, in a word, epic. it’s super addicting and fast-paced, but still slows down and takes time to really develop the characters. it’s well-rounded in that way.

m- that was something that made this book even more amazing. it gave me time to connect with the characters as well. the book was amazing and the characters and the settings and the plot was all just so addicting. can not wait for the next book to come out! 😉

rating! out of five stars: *****

would we recommend it? definitely! 🙂
